A Kaleidoscope of Hope: ASON International's Mission in Santo Domingo North
In the heart of Los Guaricanos in Santo Domingo North, a symphony of determination, passion, and faith played out as the ASON International team embarked on their mission at the Adonai Ministry. Their objective? To breathe life into a daycare center, priming it to throw open its doors on September 1st, 2023. But as with any true symphony, the crescendos and diminuendos formed the most poignant melodies.
The narrative commenced with brushes and pails of paint. Day one saw walls divested of stubborn stucco remnants, and primers gracing every inch. Day two was an enthusiastic spurt of color, covering two-thirds of the daycare. But, the third day's melody took an unexpected turn. A hiccup in the form of peeling paint forced the team to delve deeper, discovering the diluted quality of the paint from certain hardware stores. Yet, in the face of adversity, the team’s spirit was unyielding. They rallied together, repurchasing and repainting, all while battling the oppressive humidity and heat. Their spirit? Irrepressible and filled with purpose.
No stone was left unturned as over $8,000 was invested in transforming the facility. From indispensable appliances to whimsical stuffed animals, the team meticulously crafted a haven for the children. The assembly process was a playful dance, revealing the methodical readers of instructions and the free-spirited improvisers. The final day was a crescendo of joy and anticipation. As the finishing touches were laid out, the Adonai community streamed in, marveling at what was undoubtedly the most enchanting daycare in Santo Domingo North. One interaction stood out — the innocent wonder of a child who, after witnessing the splendor, pleaded with his grandmother, “Grandma, can I come to this daycare to play?”
An emotional interlude followed as team members met the children they sponsored. The mutual joy shared between the sponsors and the children painted a picture of immeasurable love and connection.
A spiritually invigorating session with the University scholars saw them mulling over the world's problems through a Christian lens. Their fervor and insights evoked admiration from everyone, including the construction supervisor, who remarked, "It was such a joy hearing what was on the minds and hearts of our University students."
Sundays at the Adonai church embodied the very essence of divine worship, as the air resonated with soul-stirring melodies. And in a moment that epitomized unity, Devon and Sagirah joined the worship team in a moving rendition.
As the mission neared its end, the Adonai School celebrated its 19th Graduation. Among the 17 bright-eyed graduates, 9 sponsored children stood out, with this year’s valedictorian, Rosmely, continuing the tradition of being a sponsored child.
In the aftermath of their mission, the team carried home not just memories, but revelations. Their journey at the Adonai Ministry was not just about erecting a structure; it was a spiritual sojourn that deeply enriched their souls.
As you read this, we hope you're moved by the dedication, love, and faith that shaped this mission. It's a testament to the transformative power of unity, faith, and purpose.
