Computer Lab for Ghana: A Divine Connection Nearly 20 Years in the Making
Sometimes, you can only see the full picture when you look back and realize how God was putting the pieces together long before anyone had a clue. This is one of those stories.
Nearly two decades ago, fresh out of college and deeply embedded in my first career, I was working for a poultry manufacturer in Wisconsin. As a process improvement professional, one of my highest-priority projects was implementing technology for statistical process control and business analytics. To bring this vision to life, I led a team of consultants who helped design and build out the systems from the ground up.
I still remember sitting in that conference room—surrounded by data charts, laptops, and whiteboards full of scribbles—digging into report logic and transforming raw data into actionable insights. We were so focused on efficiency metrics and predictive trends, never imagining the long-term ripple effects of the work we were doing.
Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that two decades later, one of those consultants and I would reconnect—not to tackle another corporate project, but to help students in one of the poorest regions of the planet.
At the time, one of the consultants on my team had recently immigrated from Kenya. A few years later, he started his own IT consulting firm. Around that same time, my career pivoted from food manufacturing into tech, eventually leading the U.S. expansion of a European software company. Life took us in different directions, and we lost touch.
But God didn’t lose track of the story He was writing.
Just recently, we reconnected to discuss a potential technology partnership—but the conversation quickly turned personal. We began catching up on everything that had happened in our lives over the last ten years and soon found ourselves talking about the non-profit work we were both doing.
When I shared about ASON International and the Senior High School we're building in Ghana, his ears perked up.
As it turns out, his non-profit—Angaza Center—focuses exclusively on equipping rural high schools in Africa with technology and digital literacy programs. Having grown up in rural Kenya himself and having been given the opportunity to move to the U.S. because of his gift in IT, he now dedicates his life to opening similar doors for others.
Amazingly, Angaza is already in the process of expanding into Ghana and is working with a school in Logba to establish a computer lab. When I mentioned the upcoming grand opening of our Senior High School in Zuarungu, he immediately offered to send a team member to evaluate it for their program.
Not long after we returned from our mission trip, we were on a conference call with his team and ours in Zuarungu, coordinating the site visit. That visit took place in mid-March, and we’re thrilled to share that Word International School passed the evaluation and has been approved for a fully-equipped computer lab!
We had already planned to install a science and computer lab, but this partnership will accelerate the project by years. It’s an extraordinary opportunity—and one that unmistakably bears God’s fingerprints.
Angaza Center will provide the computers, the curriculum, and teacher training. Their expertise and proven approach will ensure the lab's success and help transform the future of students in northern Ghana.
But while this divine opportunity is opening doors, it also brings with it a new sense of urgency.
To launch in time for the next school year, ASON must raise $5,000—and we need your help. While Angaza is covering the equipment, curriculum, and training, ASON is responsible for funding the Starlink internet installation, the furniture, and the electrical work necessary to power and secure the lab.
This isn’t just a one-time project—it’s a launchpad for long-term sustainability. A fully functional computer lab will create new revenue opportunities for the school, bringing it closer to self-sufficiency and reducing its dependency on outside aid.
This moment has been almost 20 years in the making. God connected dots we didn’t even know existed.
Now we get to be a part of what He’s unfolding—and we’re inviting you to be part of it too.
Please help us meet this urgent need. Give generously today, and help open up a future full of possibility for the students of Zuarungu.
