Reflections on the Ghana Mission Trip: Grand Opening of Senior High School

During our recent mission trip to Ghana, from February 5th through the 16th, we experienced countless powerful moments, divine connections, and appointments that left lasting impacts. Lives were transformed profoundly—including those of our own team members, many of whom now grapple with what to do next with the fire ignited in their hearts. Over the coming weeks and months, I will expand on some of these extraordinary experiences. But first things first—undoubtedly, one of the most anticipated and impactful moments of our entire journey was the grand opening of our Senior High School.

Leading up to this special day, we spent several days on the school campus, hosting women's and leadership conferences. During that time, the majority of students were not yet present, leaving the campus mostly quiet. However, on the morning of the grand opening, as our motorcade of five Cando vehicles arrived, we were greeted by an incredible sight—a vibrant campus bustling with cheerful, bright-eyed children whose smiles were contagious.

Taking our seats, we enjoyed a deeply moving ceremony filled with joyous dances, uplifting songs, passionate worship, and heartfelt speeches by alumni. Proudly returning for this momentous event, these former students spoke compellingly about the profound impact this school has had on their lives, reinforcing the school's inspiring motto, "Bringing up future leaders." Adding further significance to the event were esteemed guests, including the Director of the Ministry of Education for Bolga East and the Chief of the Fra Fra tribe, whose broad smile reflected the pride and accomplishment felt by the entire community.

Pastor Peter Awane, our beloved local leader and visionary behind this project, is a humble man whose actions speak louder than words. When prompted to speak about the fruits of his labor, he modestly responded, "I'm not good at this kind of stuff; I'm just good at scripture and biblical teaching," giving all glory to God. Following his humble yet powerful speech, we ascended to the newly completed third floor, where Ellen Abramson and the Chief together cut the ribbon, officially opening the classrooms for tours alongside representatives from the Ministry of Education.

Initially, our plan was to complete the project with the third-floor opening. However, after valuable discussions with the Ministry of Education, it became clear that adding a fourth floor to accommodate a science lab and a computer lab would significantly enhance the school's capabilities. This expansion will prepare students for digital literacy and provide them with a strong foundation in science, opening many more doors for their future.

Now, we face another monumental task: raising $73,000 for the construction of this critical fourth floor and an additional $30,000 to equip it with essential science and computer lab equipment, safety gear, and furniture. Already recognized as one of the premier schools in Ghana's Upper East Region—thanks to the dedication of its passionate teachers and principal—this additional investment will further elevate the school, ensuring students are fully equipped for the demands of the modern world.

Would you consider joining us in this final push to fully equip and empower the next generation of leaders through our Senior High School in Ghana?
