Journey of Connection: Reuniting with Colwood Church and Expanding Outreach

Ellen and I recently journeyed to Caro, Michigan, to reunite with Colwood Church, a steadfast ally in our mission, whose support has been unwavering over the years.

While in the area, we seized the opportunity to host an outreach event, aiming to connect with fresh supporters and seek out new partner churches. On the evening of Saturday, April 13th, approximately two dozen individuals from five different churches gathered at the inviting home of a couple who have been dedicated supporters of ASON for nearly two decades. Remarkably, they were the initial sponsors of children in the Dominican Republic, catalyzing the inception of our child sponsorship program. At that critical juncture when another organization had withdrawn their support from primary education in the Dominican Republic, leaving a void, Ellen Abramson stepped in to bridge the gap for Adonai Evangelical School. Thus began a lasting partnership with Pastor Marino Mendez, but I digress...

The evening at their residence was delightful; we served coffee and desserts while being serenaded by the enchanting melodies of Dee Dee Tibbits on the Hammered Dulcimer, Appalachian Dulcimer, and the Austrian Zither. This was followed by testimonies from several supporters, Ellen and myself. Attendees were engaged, inquisitive, and posed insightful questions. We were blessed with donations, and several children found sponsors. We fervently pray that the ripple effects of this gathering will forge new partnerships with churches.

Sunday was a bustling day of activities at Colwood Church. In the morning, we addressed the Sunday school and delivered a brief message during the main Sunday service. In the evening, we bonded with the "Oneighty" Youth Group, engaging in spirited rounds of 9-Square before delving into the heart of the matter. Our aim with the youth group was to offer them a glimpse into life in a third-world country. We accomplished this by dividing them into groups and challenging them to answer questions about lesser-known facts regarding life in such countries. The youth were attentive, bright-eyed, and impressed us with their insightful responses, many of which were remarkably close to the mark. Ellen and I emphasized the significance of mission work and the transformative power of embarking on a mission trip to gain invaluable life perspective. As adults, we understand that our perceptions are shaped by our life experiences. Since much of their journey still lies ahead, we sought to convey that stepping out of their comfort zones and experiencing life in a third-world country, as well as the gratification of serving in such environments, can provide them with invaluable insights. To our delight, several of the youth signed up to explore the possibility of joining us on mission trips in the future.

Life in the realm of mission work is often punctuated by profound moments amidst periods of quiet reflection. This trip stands as yet another cherished memory. Meeting each one of you was a joy, and we pray that God showers you with abundant blessings, good health, and extraordinary opportunities.

Our aspiration is to replicate these visits and outreach events at other churches, whether they are existing partners or new ones. Please help us get the word out, so we can collectively Make a Difference.
