Mission Trip Update:Building Hope in Villa Vázquez
In early March, we traveled to rural Minnesota to recruit for our upcoming construction mission trip to the Dominican Republic. This year, we have chosen a construction project that truly feels like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
We will be partnering with a new pastor who is faithfully serving a new congregation in a completely new field. While our recent construction projects have taken place in the heart of Los Guaricanos in the inner city, this time we will be working in the rural northwest region of the Dominican Republic, in Villa Vázquez—nestled in the countryside near Monte Cristi.
There, we will be building a church for Pastor Joel Jerez, who has planted a thriving congregation now in need of a permanent place to gather. This project is an opportunity to help establish a new church and bring the hope of Christ to a growing community.
Because we are breaking ground in a new field and constructing an entirely new building, the cost of this project is significant. In order to meet these needs, we initially required a team of at least 20 people. By April, however, we had received registrations from only 12 individuals, which raised concerns about whether the project would be financially possible.
In God’s provision, a generous donor stepped forward and made a significant contribution that has allowed this project to move forward, even with a smaller team. We are deeply grateful.
We are excited to share that we will be traveling to the Dominican Republic on July 11th with a team of 12—three from Florida, one from Nebraska, and eight from Minnesota. This team represents four generations coming together in service, with our youngest member being 15 and our oldest in their 60s. It is a beautiful picture of the body of Christ, united across ages and states to serve together in this work.
We ask for your prayers for each team member as they raise the necessary support for their trip. Please also pray for safety as work begins in this new location, and for the construction team preparing the foundation so that we will be ready to lay block when we arrive in July.
